Baltimore Orioles (38-36) at Chicago Cubs (48-28), 8:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs have an opportunity to accomplish something the franchise hasn't done in 73 years when the National League Central leaders host the Baltimore Orioles tonight at Wrigley Field.

It's not winning a World Series, a goal the Cubs last fulfilled all the way back in 1908. Instead, Chicago enters the opener of this three-game interleague series on a remarkable 14-game win streak at historic Wrigley Field, the club's longest home run since a 14-gamer between June 4-July 10, 1936.

The Cubs last won 15 games in a row at Wrigley during the 1935 campaign, when Chicago posted victories in its final 18 home outings that year.

Chicago improved its 2008 home record to a stellar 32-8 with Sunday's 7-1 triumph of the White Sox, which completed a three-game sweep of its Windy City rival. Ryan Dempster delivered eight strong innings on the mound for the Cubs, while Aramis Ramirez belted his fourth home run in three games to lead the offense.

Dempster (9-2) scattered 10 hits and yielded just one run to move to 9-0 at Wrigley Field this season. The former closer struck out four and walked just one.

Derrek Lee added two hits and a pair of RBI for Chicago, which currently owns a 4 1/2-game advantage over second-place St. Louis in the NL Central. Eric Patterson finished 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and scored three times in the win.

Ramirez ended the White Sox series 6-for-13 with four home runs and eight RBI.

The Cubs, who haven't lost at home since May 17, will attempt to extend their streak tonight behind Sean Marshall. The tall left-hander will be making his first start of 2008 after 13 early-season appearances out of the bullpen.

Marshall was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in early May but will be recalled in time for tonight's tilt to take the rotation spot of ace Carlos Zambrano, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a minor strain of his right shoulder.

The 25-year-old Marshall started 43 games for Chicago over the last two seasons and went 1-1 with a 3.41 earned run average in seven games for Iowa. In his most recent time out, he allowed just one run and four hits over eight innings to defeat New Orleans on Thursday.

Marshall will be facing the Orioles for the first time this evening.

Baltimore counters with hard-luck hurler Jeremy Guthrie, who brings only a 3-7 ledger into tonight's matchup despite having posted a solid 3.51 ERA in 16 starts. The right-hander has often been a victim of poor run support, which plagued Guthrie once again in his last start.

Guthrie limited Houston to one run and three hits while striking out a season- best eight batters over eight frames this past Wednesday. He was denied a potential victory, however, in a game the Orioles won 2-1 in 10 innings.

The former first-round draft pick has surrendered two earned runs or fewer in seven of his last 10 starts.

Guthrie has pitched once previously against the Cubs, a two-inning relief stint while with Cleveland in 2006 in which he gave up four runs and six hits.

Baltimore makes its first-ever appearance at Wrigley Field after dropping the final two tests of a three-game set at Milwaukee over the weekend. In Sunday's rubber match, Prince Fielder homered in back-to-back innings to power the Brewers to a 7-3 win.

Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis had an RBI double and walked four times in a losing cause, while Kevin Millar knocked in two runs on the afternoon.

Garrett Olson (5-3) took the loss on Sunday after permitting four runs and a pair of homers in five innings of work.

Baltimore fell to 16-24 on the road with Sunday's setback and has now lost four of its last five as the visitor.

In the only previous series between these teams, the Cubs took two of three games from the O's at Camden Yards from June 10-12, 2003.
