(Sports Network) - Veteran right-hander Kevin Millwood tries to keep a good thing going tonight when the Texas Rangers head to Nationals Park for the opener of a three-game interleague series with the Washington Nationals.
Millwood, a 33-year-old North Carolina native, is unbeaten in his last five starts - winning three - stretching back to a May 5 defeat in Seattle.
He allowed five hits and two runs over six innings in his last time out, defeating the New York Mets, 8-7, on June 15.
Millwood, who began his career in the National League with the Atlanta Braves, has had great success against the Nationals in the past, going 15-5 in 25 starts with a 3.60 earned run average in 157 2/3 innings.
He's opposed by Washington's Tim Redding, who's gone five starts without registering a decision.
The 30-year-old product of Monroe Community College in upstate New York defeated Philadelphia, 4-0, on May 19, but has since started five times and seen the Nationals win all five, while he's failed to notch another victory.
He allowed five hits and one unearned run his last time out as the Nationals beat Seattle, 6-2, on June 15.
Redding is 0-1 in four career meetings - two starts - with the Rangers.
On Thursday in Texas, Brandon Boggs hit a three-run home run, and Michael Young delivered the winning run with a single in the bottom of the ninth as the Rangers bounced back from a ninth-inning collapse to edge the Atlanta Braves, 5-4, in the rubber match of their three-game series.
After the Braves scored twice to tie the game in the top of the ninth, Ian Kinsler greeted Blaine Boyer by smacking his first pitch into the gap in left- center for a double, and Boyer was immediately yanked in favor of lefty Will Ohman.
Pinch-hitter Chris Shelton popped up trying to bunt, and Braves manager Bobby Cox made another pitching move, bringing Jeff Bennett out of the bullpen. But, Young poked a line drive past Greg Norton and into right, where Jeff Francoeur couldn't handle the ball for a throw to the plate, allowing Kinsler to sprint home with the winning run.
Kinsler finished 2-for-4 for the Rangers, who have won three of their last five. Josh Hamilton went 2-for-4 with a double, while Young drove in a pair of runs.
Jamey Wright (4-2) earned the win despite blowing the save in the ninth, while Scott Feldman didn't factor in the decision after allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings.
In Minnesota, Michael Cuddyer had two hits, two RBI and scored twice as Minnesota blitzed Washington, 9-3, in the finale of a three- game interleague series from the Metrodome.
Dmitri Young homered for the Nationals, who have lost three straight after winning three in a row. Cristian Guzman had two hits and knocked in a run and Elijah Dukes also picked up an RBI in defeat.
Shawn Hill (1-4) was saddled with the loss, torched in his start for 10 hits and seven runs -- six earned -- over 3 2/3 frames.
Texas took two of three from the Nats the last time these teams faced off back in Arlington in 2005.
