LA Angels of Anaheim (43-30) at Philadelphia Phillies (42-32), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will make their first- ever trip to Philadelphia this evening, as they begin a three-game interleague set with the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

The Angels and Phillies have met just once during the regular season in their respective team histories, as Los Angeles took two of three at home from June 9-11, 2003. The game will mark a homecoming for Angels manager Mike Scioscia, who was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and went to high school in Springfield, PA.

Philadelphia also won't be happy to see Vladimir Guerrero return to town. Guerrero dominated the Phils during his time with the Montreal Expos from 1996-2003, as he is hitting .366 (115-for-314) in 88 career tests against them with 28 homers and 79 RBI.

Guerrero had two hits and drove in a pair of runs in Wednesday's 5-4 extra- inning setback to the Mets. The game also saw Torii Hunter smack two hits and drive in a run, but closer Francisco Rodriguez blew his second save of the season, as Los Angeles lost consecutive series' for the first time since July 2007.

In addition to dropping two of three to the Mets, the Angels were bested twice in a three-game set with Atlanta. In all, the Angels went 4-5 on a nine-game homestand and start a nine-game trek tonight. That isn't a problem for LA, which has won five of its last six on the road and is an MLB-best 21-12 as the visitor this season.

The Angels, who lead second-place Oakland by 3 1/2 games in the American League West, send Ervin Santana to the hill tonight. Santana has never faced the Phillies, who will serve as a tough road test for the righty. Santana is 5-1 with a 3.50 earned run average in eight road starts this year after going a dismal 1-10 with an 8.38 ERA in 16 road outings last season.

The 25-year-old is 8-3 with a 3.40 ERA overall in 2008, but fell in defeat last time out. Santana faced Atlanta and gave up a season-high six runs on nine hits -- including two homers -- over just 5 2/3 innings. It marked the first time he failed to go at least six innings since a no-decision versus Tampa Bay on May 11, also a 5 2/3-inning effort.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley gets his first-ever look at Santana, and brings an 0-for-20 skid into tonight's test. Utley, who leads the NL in All- Star voting, has seen his average fall to .294 on the season and is hitting below .300 for the first time since June 2 of last year.

Utley went 0-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-4 setback to Boston, as the Phils dropped two of three to the Red Sox. Pedro Feliz had two RBI while Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth knocked in a run each for the Phillies, who have dropped four of five and now lead Florida by two games for first place in the NL East.

Kyle Kendrick (6-3) was dented for six hits and six runs in three innings in the loss, as Philadelphia fell to 22-15 at home. The Phillies are also just 2-4 versus the AL this year and have lost three straight series overall.

Philly starter Adam Eaton will try to keep his ballclub in the game tonight. Eaton is 2-4 with a 4.57 ERA this year and has gone at least six frames in each of his last five starts, posting a 3.06 ERA in that time. He lost on Saturday to St. Louis, though, after allowing three runs on a season-high nine hits over 6 2/3 innings of work.

The 30-year-old righty is 2-1 with a 5.26 ERA in five career starts versus the Angels, and last faced them on September 27, 2006 while with Texas.

Guerrero is 3-for-10 (.300) in his career against Eaton with four strikeouts, while Garret Anderson is 6-for-13 (.462) with a homer and four RBI.
