(Sports Network) - Veteran right-hander Brian Moehler can make his seventh career start against Baltimore a lucky one tonight, when the Houston Astros visit Camden Yards for the second of three interleague games against the Orioles.
A 36-year-old North Carolina native, Moehler is 1-1 with a 4.73 earned run average in six previous starts against Baltimore in which he has surrendered 40 hits, 17 earned runs and 11 walks in 32 1/3 innings while also posting 21 strikeouts.
Moehler has alternated wins and losses in each of his six decisions in 2008, including a 9-6 setback to Milwaukee on June 12. He was raked for seven hits and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Brewers. He had his best start of the season against St. Louis on June 6, allowing just two hits in seven scoreless innings of a 6-1 victory.
Overall this year, he is 1-1 with a 5.32 ERA in 16 2/3 road innings.
Baltimore goes with 29-year-old righty Jeremy Guthrie, who has dropped four of his last five decisions.
The Oregon native was also knocked around in his last outing on June 12 after coming off his best start, giving up seven hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings of a 9-2 rout at Boston. Previously, he allowed six hits and a run in seven innings of a 9-5 win at Toronto.
Guthrie, a first-round draft pick in 2002, has never faced the Astros.
On Tuesday, Melvin Mora's two-run double in the eighth inning boosted the Orioles to a 6-5 victory over the Astros.
Nick Markakis was 2-for-5 with a solo homer, while Aubrey Huff was 2-for-4 with a two-run blast for the Orioles, who have won nine of their last 14 games.
Garrett Olson's control was spotty, as the Orioles' starter allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings while striking out four. Jim Johnson struck out two batters in the eighth inning to get the win. George Sherrill picked up his 23rd save of the season in a perfect ninth.
Brandon Backe lasted 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and a pair of walks for Houston. Doug Brocail (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Michael Bourn went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Kaz Matsui had three RBI and a pair of runs scored for the Astros, who lost a season-high sixth consecutive game and 15th in their last 18. Carlos Lee hit the team's only home run.
Baltimore swept a three-game series at Camden Yards the last time these teams played back in 2005.
