(Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers have been waiting more than 10 years to extend their home winning streak over the Toronto Blue Jays. The two clubs meet tonight at Miller Park in the opener of a three-game interleague series.
The Brewers and Blue Jays haven't met in Milwaukee since 1997, Milwaukee's last season as an American League club. The Brew Crew won all five meetings at home with the Jays that year and have won their last matchups in Milwaukee overall. Toronto hasn't posted a win in Milwaukee since July 14, 1996.
Milwaukee also won two of three the last time these two teams got together, June 17-19, 2005.
The Brewers resume a nine-game homestand tonight, a residency that began with a three-game set with the Twins. Milwaukee posted a 4-2 victory on Sunday to avoid getting swept in three games by Minnesota.
Mike Cameron hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, while Jason Kendall finished with three hits in the win. Both Kendall and Russell Branyan each drove in a run for the Brewers, who have won four of their last seven games and trail the Cubs by 8 1/2 games for first place in the NL Central.
Seth McClung (4-3) had a quality start, giving up only two runs on four hits while striking out four and not walking a batter over six frames. Salomon Torres pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his eighth save of the season.
The Brewers turn to Manny Parra tonight, hoping the 25-year-old can shake off a subpar outing last time out. Parra won his third straight start, but did so in less-than-stellar fashion, as he gave up five runs on a career-high 10 hits -- including three homers -- in seven innings. However, he was backed by an offensive surge in a 10-6 win.
The left-hander had given up just a run in each of his previous two starts and is 5-2 with a 4.66 ERA this year. Parra is also 3-0 with a 2.90 ERA in seven home starts in 2008.
Parra faces the Blue Jays for the first time in his career, while Dustin McGowan takes on the Brewers for the first time tonight as well. McGowan pitched a gem last time while winning his third straight decision.
The right-hander went the distance against Seattle, allowing just a run on five hits with seven strikeouts. It was the second time in the last four starts that McGowan gave up just a run in the outing.
The 26-year-old is 5-4 with a 3.92 ERA, but is just 1-3 in eight road starts, posting a 6.02 ERA in that span.
Toronto won the opener of its weekend set with the Cubs, but dropped the next two tests to end a nine-game homestand just 3-6. The club hasn't been much better on the road, going 17-19 away from Canada.
In Sunday's 7-4 loss, Jesse Litsch (7-3) was touched for five runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings as the starter. Gregg Zaun, activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier in the day, smacked a two-run homer while Alex Rios and Vernon Wells each added a sac fly for Toronto, which has dropped three of its last four.
Blue Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay will face the Brewers for the first time since getting dealt by the club to Toronto on December 7, 2005. Overbay played with Milwaukee from 2004-05, belting 35 homers and driving in 159 runs in that span. He also played in a career-high 159 games in 2004 with the Brewers.
