Oakland Athletics (37-31) at San Francisco Giants (30-39), 4:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - As the only team in the National League West with a losing record at home heading into play on Sunday, the San Francisco Giants try to stem the tide this afternoon as they close out a three-game interleague set against the neighboring Oakland Athletics.

The Giants saw their home record dip to 13-21 on Saturday when they were blanked by Oakland in a 4-0 decision. The loss was the second in a row and the fourth in the last five outings for San Francisco, not to mention the club's fifth shutout of the 2008 campaign.

Randy Winn and Rich Aurilia each had a pair of hits for the Giants, who have now been outscored 9-1 in the first two games of this series and 17-1 in the last four games between the clubs. Matt Cain was charged with the loss, despite fanning 11 in seven-plus innings. He permitted six hits, which led to three runs.

Kurt Suzuki hit his first career triple, finishing the contest 3-for-4 with a run scored for the A's. Mark Ellis and Ryan Sweeney both had a couple of hits and scored a run in order to provide Rich Harden with his fourth win of the season. The starter lasted six innings, giving up just a single hit and striking out nine.

In an attempt to bounce back from a rough outing the last time out, Dana Eveland makes his way to the mound for the A's this afternoon. The lefty had trouble hitting his spots and ended up with six walks in six innings, along with four hits and two runs in the 3-1 loss to the New York Yankees.

In the last two games combined Eveland has issued 13 bases-on-balls, one more than he had the entire month of May.

Eveland, who was previously on the roster of both the Milwaukee Brewers and the Arizona Diamondbacks, has had trouble with his control since hitting the majors in 2005, showing 78 walks, against 111 strikeouts in 54 games.

As for the Giants, they hand the ball to Kevin Correia this afternoon. The right-hander, who like Eveland has yet to earn a decision against today's opponent, had been on the disabled list since April 27 with a left intercostal strain but is ready to get back into action according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Before his injury Correia had a record of just 1-3 with the big club. More recently the San Diego native appeared in two rehab games with Triple-A Fresno, allowing just two earned runs over 12 innings, striking out 15 along the way.

Oakland hitters currently rank third from the bottom in average with a collective .253 in the AL, but because the club has had issues with generating power on a consistent basis their slugging percentage of .375 is dead last in the AL entering play today.

Mark Ellis has been trying to hold it together for the club over the last week, posting 12 hits in 26 at-bats and coming up with six RBI and six runs scored. However, it is not easy making up for a slumping Bobby Crosby who is hitting .167 with one run scored in his more recent 24 plate appearances.

Fred Lewis has been the most productive hitter for the Giants this last week, posting 10 hits in 28 at-bats, but even then he's managed just three RBI and three runs scored for a team hitting only .257.
