Chicago White Sox (37-28) at Detroit Tigers (28-37), 1:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The difference between playing at home or away has been like night and day for the Chicago White Sox.

The current American League Central leaders will attempt to halt a five-game road losing streak and avoid a potential sweep at the hands of the Detroit Tigers when the two divisional foes wrap up their three-game series this afternoon at Comerica Park.

The White Sox were shut down by Justin Verlander in last night's encounter, with the Detroit ace throwing his team's first complete game in nearly a year to lead the Tigers to a 5-1 decision.

Verlander (3-9) allowed just four hits and fanned three without walking a batter to pick up just his second victory in his last nine starts. The standout right-hander became the first Tiger pitcher to go the distance since Verlander no-hit Milwaukee on June 12, 2007.

Marcus Thames slugged a three-run homer in the second inning for the Tigers, winners of four of their last five games. Carlos Guillen and Magglio Ordonez also knocked in runs as Detroit followed up a 6-4 victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Chicago starter Javier Vazquez (6-5) yielded 10 hits and five runs over six innings, but managed to strike out nine on the night. A.J. Pierzynski drove in the White Sox' lone run with a fourth-inning single.

The White Sox entered this series after winning all seven games during a week- long homestand. Chicago is just 17-19 as the visitor this season, compared to a 20-9 mark at U.S. Cellular Field.

Chicago turns to Mark Buehrle this afternoon in hopes of ending its recent road woes. The reliable left-hander is coming off one of his best outings of the year, an eight-inning stint Saturday against Minnesota in which he limited the Twins to one run and seven hits to pick up the win.

Over his last five starts, Buehrle has posted a 2-1 record with a solid 3.31 earned run average and yielded one run or less in three of those appearances.

The quick-working veteran also owns an impressive 13-8 record and a 3.07 ERA in 25 career games (24 starts) against Detroit. Buehrle defeated the Tigers at Comerica Park back on April 6 after allowing two runs -- one earned -- in seven innings of work.

Detroit counters with a seasoned southpaw of its own in Kenny Rogers. The 43- year-old has recorded three consecutive no-decisions despite surrendering only three earned runs in a span of 21 innings.

Rogers was sharp once again this past Saturday, when he held Cleveland to three runs -- one earned -- and just five hits over seven frames. He left the contest with the Tigers trailing by a run, but was taken off the hook when the Tigers scored six times in the bottom of the eighth.

In 56 career games -- including 32 starts -- against Chicago, Rogers has compiled a 16-10 overall record and a 4.45 ERA. He was hit hard by the White Sox earlier this season, however, as Rogers was tagged for seven runs in just four innings in an 11-0 loss on April 13.

Detroit will be shooting for its first three-game sweep of the White Sox since July 8-10, 2003. Chicago has amassed an outstanding 22-11 record in the Motor City since 2005 and swept a three-game set from the Tigers at Comerica Park from April 4-6.

The White Sox have won five of the eight overall meetings between these club so far this season.
