Seattle Mariners (23-42) at Toronto Blue Jays (34-33), 12:37 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt to earn their first series win in two weeks when the scuffling club wraps up a three-game set with the Seattle Mariners this afternoon at the Rogers Centre.

Since winning two of three tests on the road against the Oakland Athletics from May 27-29, Toronto has dropped three consecutive series and lost seven times within a nine-game span prior to last night's 3-1 decision over the Mariners.

The Blue Jays were led by a stellar mound effort by Dustin McGowan. The talented right-hander limited Seattle to five hits and struck out seven in a complete-game gem, with the Mariners' lone run coming on a solo homer by Jeremy Reed in the fifth inning.

McGowan (5-4) got all the support he needed via solo home runs by Vernon Wells and Brad Wilkerson. Scott Rolen added an RBI single to help Toronto avenge a 3-2, 10-inning defeat to the Mariners on Monday.

Carlos Silva (3-7) pitched well in defeat for Seattle, surrendering three runs on nine hits over seven innings of work.

Today's finale will pit a pair of quality right-handers in the Blue Jays' Shaun Marcum and Seattle phenom Felix Hernandez.

Marcum has been remarkably solid over the season's first two months. The 26- year-old has yielded two runs or less in 10 of his 13 starts, and his 2.52 earned run average is tied with Cleveland's Cliff Lee for the best mark in the American League.

The Missouri native delivered another strong start on Friday, when he held Baltimore to one run on seven hits over seven-plus innings. Marcum left the contest with a 4-0 lead, but the Toronto bullpen allowed six runs in the eighth inning to deny him a victory.

Marcum, who is 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA in eight home outings this year, has faced the Mariners six times previously, including three times in a starting role. He is 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA lifetime against Seattle.

Hernandez has not surrendered a run in either of his last two starts, a pair of victories over the Red Sox and Tigers. The highly-touted Venezuelan twirled six shutout frames against the potent Boston lineup in Friday's 8-0 win at Fenway Park, with Hernandez giving up just six hits and three walks.

The 22-year-old was even better against Detroit on May 31. In that game, Hernandez allowed a mere two hits and struck out seven without a walk over seven scoreless innings.

Hernandez is 1-1 with a 4.05 ERA over three career starts against Toronto, all of which have come at the Rogers Centre.

The Mariners are just 5-13 in Toronto since the start of the 2005 season and lost in five of their six games played at the Rogers Centre last year.
