(Sports Network) - Right-hander Edinson Volquez tries for a second straight win against Florida tonight, when the Cincinnati Reds visit Dolphin Stadium for the finale of a four-game series with the Marlins.
Volquez, acquired in the offseason for outfielder Josh Hamilton, defeated the Marlins on May 13 in Cincinnati, scattering seven hits and allowing a run in six innings while striking out five batters.
The 24-year-old lowered his major-league leading earned run average to 1.32 in his last start, allowing two hits over seven scoreless innings against a powerful Philadelphia lineup in a 2-0 victory on June 4.
He has allowed just 49 hits and 11 earned runs in 75 innings.
Elsewhere for the Reds, future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. is still on the brink of a milestone.
The Cincinnati native, who has 599 home runs for his career, has gone 6-for-14 with three doubles and nine walks since going deep on May 31 against Atlanta.
He was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the opener of the four-game series with the Marlins on Friday, then went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored in game two. He was 0-for-1 with two walks on Sunday, and is trying to become the sixth member of the 600-homer club.
For Florida, lefty Mark Hendrickson tries to snap a two-start skid.
The Washington native has been touched for 16 hits and 14 runs in just 9 2/3 innings over those two starts, losing a 12-3 verdict to Philadelphia and getting a no-decision in Florida's 6-4 defeat of Atlanta.
Hendrickson was on the losing end of the matchup with Volquez on May 13, allowing eight hits and four runs in five innings. He's given up five hits in eight at-bats, including a home run, in his career against Griffey.
On Sunday, Hanley Ramirez belted a pair of two-run homers, as the Marlins walloped the Reds by a 9-2 score.
Ryan Tucker (1-0), making his major-league debut, limited the Reds to one run on two hits in five innings of work.
The 21-year-old hurler struck out six and walked five. Tucker had made 12 starts at Double-A Carolina, going 4-2 with a 1.41 earned run average at the time of his promotion.
Dan Uggla doubled twice and knocked in three runs for Florida, which has won three of its last five games. Jeremy Hermida went 2-for-5 and scored two runs, while Jorge Cantu had two hits and drove in a run.
Cincinnati starter Aaron Harang (2-9) went 5 1/3 innings and was roughed up for eight runs -- seven earned -- on 11 hits. Harang has dropped his last four decisions since defeating the Marlins on May 12.
Corey Patterson clubbed a solo home run and Harang added an RBI single for Cincinnati, which has dropped four of six contests. Jerry Hairston Jr. notched the Reds' other hit with a double to begin the game.
The Reds have won four of six matchups so far this year against the Marlins, but lost three of four in Florida last season.
