Cleveland Indians (25-30) at Kansas City Royals (22-34), 2:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals finally managed to halt a 12-game losing skid yesterday, and they close out a three-game weekend set against the Cleveland Indians at Kauffman Stadium this afternoon.

David DeJesus homered and doubled while driving in two runs to help the Royals halt the long winless drought on Saturday. Kansas City beat Cleveland by a 4-2 final.

Kansas City starter Kyle Davies (1-0) fared well in his first big-league action this season, allowing just one run on five hits and three walks through five innings. The Royals turned to a fresh face for their first win since a 9-3 victory against the Marlins at Dolphin Stadium on May 18.

Mark Grudzielanek added two hits and a run batted in for the Royals and Joakim Soria notched his 12th save of the season by tossing the final two innings.

During the losing streak, Kansas City was swept in consecutive four-game sets for the first time in franchise history.

Indians starter C.C. Sabathia (3-7) fell victim to one bad inning, as he surrendered three of his four runs allowed in the fifth in taking the loss. Kansas City managed eight hits, but Sabathia fanned four without allowing a walk in the complete-game effort.

Paul Byrd is slated to take the hill for Cleveland today, and he hopes to improve on his 2-4 record and 4.10 ERA. While he has only permitted eight walks in 59 1/3 innings of action, Byrd has yielded 63 hits.

He is fresh off a no-decision against Chicago on Monday in which he permitted 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

The veteran righty is 1-4 with a 5.20 ERA lifetime against the Royals.

Set to oppose Byrd is Brian Bannister, who is 4-6 with a 4.97 ERA this season. He yielded three earned runs in five innings against Minnesota on Tuesday and did not figure in the decision.

Bannister lost his only outing against Cleveland this season. He only permitted two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings in that game, but didn't get enough run support from his teammates.

Cleveland has won four of seven from the Royals this season and swept a three- game series in Kansas City from April 22-24.
