Boston Red Sox (32-24) at Baltimore Orioles (26-26), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Camden Yards has usually been a great place for Boston's Josh Beckett to pitch. However, he struggled there earlier this year and will try to atone for that outing tonight in the Red Sox's opener of a four-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.

Beckett entered a road start against Baltimore on May 13 with a perfect 4-0 mark and 2.05 earned run average in four lifetime appearances at Camden Yards, but was drilled for five runs on a season-high 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings of a 5-4 setback.

Luke Scott had a nice game versus Beckett, going 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBI for the Orioles.

The right-handed Beckett wasn't better his next time out after that loss to the O's, as he gave up six runs in a win over Milwaukee on May 18 before taking a tough-luck loss in Oakland on Saturday. Beckett held the A's to two runs on seven hits over seven innings, but still fell to 5-4 with a 4.43 ERA on the season.

Beckett's struggles have mirrored Boston's. The club is 1-5 on its current 10- game road trip and a game behind Tampa Bay for first place in the American League East.

The Red Sox' offense was silenced on Wednesday, as they lost to Seattle, 1-0, and managed just two hits on the evening. Manny Ramirez, who hit his 499th career home run in Tuesday's contest, went 1-for-3 with a walk. Mike Lowell had the other hit for the Red Sox.

Tim Wakefield (3-4) was excellent in eight innings of work for Boston, as he surrendered just the one run on five hits and struck out eight while walking none.

Ramirez has nine homers this year and has belted 31 in 182 career games against the Orioles, hitting .313 over that span. He has never gone deep against tonight's starter for Baltimore, Daniel Cabrera, and is 3-for-13 (.231) with three RBI and three walks against the O's hurler.

Cabrera enters tonight's start having won his last three decisions, a run that includes a victory over the Red Sox. Cabrera limited Boston to three runs despite giving up 10 hits over seven innings of a 6-3 win on May 14. The free- throwing righty also didn't walk a batter, nor did he in a May 20 win over the Yankees.

However, Cabrera, who walked 108 batters in 2007, lost his control on Sunday against Tampa Bay. He yielded nine hits and six walks to go along with four runs in 5 2/3 frames of a no-decision.

Cabrera, who is 5-1 with a 3.70 ERA this season, is just 2-9 with a 7.35 ERA in 12 career starts versus the Red Sox.

While Cabrera has kept Ramirez and David Ortiz (.200 with two RBI and eight walks) somewhat in check, he has struggled against Lowell and Jacoby Ellsbury. Lowell is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two homers and eight RBI against Cabrera, while Ellsbury is 5-for-10 with a homer.

The Orioles failed in their attempt to sweep the Yankees on Wednesday, falling to a 4-2 defeat. Melvin Mora collected three hits for the second game in a row, including a two-run home run for the Orioles, whose two-game win streak came to a halt.

Mora has eight hits and six RBI over his last four games while homering in back-to-back tests as well.

Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie (2-6) dropped his third consecutive decision despite a solid performance that saw him yield only six hits and three runs over seven frames.

Baltimore swept a two-game home set over Boston in mid-May, but has still lost 16 of its last 23 at home versus the Red Sox.
