San Francisco Giants (21-31) at Arizona Diamondbacks (30-22), 9:40 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Doug Davis makes his second start since returning from cancer surgery this evening when the Arizona Diamondbacks continue their three-game series with the San Francisco Giants at Chase Field.

Davis returned just 42 days after having a cancerous thyroid gland removed and won his start on Friday in Atlanta, as he held the Braves to a run and five hits in seven innings to run his record to 2-1, while lowering his earned run average to 2.70.

The 32-year-old left-hander is 3-4 lifetime against the Giants with a 4.65 ERA in 11 games (10 starts).

San Francisco will counter with a southpaw of its own in 25-year-old Jonathan Sanchez, who is 2-3 with a 4.39 ERA. Sanchez's winless streak reached five games last Wednesday against Colorado when he surrendered two runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. However, he didn't factor in the decision of his team's 3-2 win that day.

Sanchez received a no-decision earlier in the year against the D'Backs and is 0-3 in his career against them with a 6.35 ERA in six games (four starts).

The National League's Player of the Week, Bengie Molina, hit a three-run home run in the opener of this set on Tuesday, as San Francisco rolled to a 6-3 win. Jose Castillo hit a solo homer, while Fred Lewis had two hits and scored twice for the Giants, who have won four of their last six.

Over the course of his nine-game hitting streak Molina is 20-for-35 (.571) with two home runs and 14 RBI.

Tim Lincecum (7-1) got the win as he gave up three runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings of work.

Orlando Hudson and Conor Jackson each had two hits with a run scored, and Dan Haren (5-4) got the loss as he gave up five runs on nine hits in six innings of work for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped three of their last four.

Prior to last night's opener, the D'Backs placed outfielder Eric Byrnes on the disabled list for the first time in his career. Byrnes, who is hitting a paltry .219 this season, has been hampered by sore hamstrings.

Arizona has won four of its six matchups with the Giants this season and has won six of the last eight meetings. The D'Backs have also been a stingy host, winning four of five and 11 of their last 14 at home in the series.
