(Sports Network) - Two of the best young pitchers in baseball square off this evening when Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants visit Dan Haren and the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opener of a three-game series at Chase Field.
Lincecum ran his unbeaten streak to four starts last Tuesday in Colorado, as he allowed three runs and five hits in six innings to run his record to 6-1 to go along with a 2.17 earned run average.
The 23-year-old righty has been perfect away from home this season, posting a 4-0 mark to go along with a superb 1.23 ERA in five games (four starts).
Lincecum, who is third in the NL with 69 strikeouts, has faced Arizona twice in his young career and is 1-0 against them, surrendering just two runs in 13 2/3 innings of those contests.
While Lincecum has been perfect on the road, Haren has produced a 5-0 mark with a 2.27 ERA in his six starts in front of his home fans.
Haren, though, absorbed the loss in his last trip to the hill on Thursday in Florida, as the Marlins hit him for four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 frames, dropping the right-hander to 5-3, while raising his ERA to 3.39.
In nine games (eight starts) against the Giants, Haren is 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA.
Despite sitting atop the NL West standings, Arizona enters tonight's tilt on a bit of a slide after going 2-5 on its seven-game road trip, which ended in a 7-3 defeat on Monday against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
Brandon Webb (9-2) took the loss and allowed a season-high seven runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and three walks in 4 1/3 innings, -- his shortest outing since October 1, 2006, when he threw only four.
Rookie Justin Upton was given the day off on Monday, but was particularly bad on the trek, going hitless in 20 at-bats.
San Francisco, meanwhile, enters tonight's opener on the heels of being swept in a doubleheader by the Florida Marlins on Sunday, losing the first game 8-6, before falling 5-4 in game two.
The lone bright spot in the white wash was catcher Bengie Molina, who was 6- for-7 in the double-dip with five RBI. He is riding an eight-game hit streak.
Shortstop Omar Vizquel started both ends of the doubleheader and in the process eclipsed Luis Aparicio's mark for most games played at the position, appearing in his 2,584th career game.
Arizona has won four of its five matchups with the Giants this season and has won six of the last seven meetings. The D'Backs have also been a stingy host, winning four straight and 11 of their last 13 at home in the series.
