Game Two: San Francisco - Pat Misch (0-0, 5.27) Florida - TBA
(Sports Network) - Former first-round draft pick Matt Cain looks for a third start without a loss today when the San Francisco Giants and Florida Marlins conclude their rain-impacted series with a doubleheader at Dolphin Stadium.
Saturday's contest was postponed by rain making today's double-dip necessary.
It was the Marlins' first home rainout since 2004.
Cain, the 25th overall pick in 2002, defeated Houston, 4-2, on May 13, allowing seven hits and two runs in eight innings.
His last loss came May 8 at Pittsburgh, when he was touched for nine hits and five runs in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-4 Pirates win at PNC Park.
A 13-game winner in 2006, Cain slumped to just 7-16 last season, though he allowed just 173 hits in 200 innings while striking out 163 batters.
His earned run average also dropped from 4.15 in 2006 to 3.65 in 2007.
He is 1-0 in two career starts against the Marlins, allowing 12 hits and six runs in 14 innings.
Cain will be opposed by Florida's Mark Hendrickson, who earned his first win in 18 days in his last start. The 6-foot-9 right-hander was 5-1 in seven starts to begin the season, but had gone two straight without a victory before downing Arizona, 3-2, with five innings of four-hit, one-run ball on May 20.
He struck out seven and walked one in the victory, which got him to six wins in a season for the first time since he won 11 times with Tampa Bay in 2005.
Hendrickson is 1-1 in seven lifetime appearances - four starts - against the Giants, allowing 37 hits and 12 runs in 35 innings.
Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez has not named a starter for the second game, as he wants to see how game one goes. The likely candidate will be reliever Logan Kensing. The team could also opt for a minor league call-up or any number of relievers from the Marlins' pen.
Whomever it its, he will be opposed by lefty Pat Misch, who tries once again for his first major-league win.
The 26-year-old Illinois native, a seventh-round draft choice of the Giants in 2003, is winless in 24 major-league appearances since 2006, including five this season.
He's pitched 27 1/3 innings over four starts and one relief appearance in 2008, allowing 28 hits and 16 runs.
He got a fifth straight no-decision in his last outing at Colorado on May 19, allowing five hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings of the Rockies' 4-3 victory.
The Giants are 0-5 in games in which he's appeared.
Misch has made one brief relief appearance against Florida in his career, retiring the only batter he faced.
On Friday, Barry Zito finally got his first win of the season as the Giants beat Florida, 8-2.
Zito (1-8) threw 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits, while striking out five batters and walking four in his 10th start of the season. He avoided becoming the first starter in franchise history to go 0-9.
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, and finished with two runs batted in and two scored for the Giants, who have rattled off three victories on the heels of a six-game skid. Aaron Rowand was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three RBI. Rich Aurilia finished with a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Jose Castillo added a solo blast.
Dan Uggla went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and finished with both RBI for Florida, which saw its three-game win streak end, but is still 4-2 over its last six contests.
Scott Olsen (4-2) took the loss after he was roughed up for seven runs -- five earned -- on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings.
San Francisco won six of its seven matchups with the Marlins last season.
