(Sports Network) - Journeyman right-hander Jorge Campillo makes his second start of 2008 today when the Atlanta Braves host the Arizona Diamondbacks in game two of a four-game series at Turner Field.
A 29-year-old undrafted free agent, Campillo began the season with 13 straight relief appearances before starting a May 20 game against the New York Mets. In that outing, Campillo allowed just three hits over six scoreless innings in a 6-2 Braves win, marking the fourth consecutive appearance in which he's not allowed a run.
He is unscored upon since a May 8 appearance against San Diego and has allowed runs in just two of 14 games overall, posting a 0.99 earned run average in 27 1/3 innings.
Campillo, who has never faced the D'Backs, had made just one previous major- league start, while with Seattle in 2005. He's made 22 big-league appearances overall and has surrendered 42 hits and 17 earned runs in 45 innings.
On the other side, Arizona's veteran Randy Johnson looks for a fifth straight victory. He began the season with a loss and a no-decision in two starts, but has since gone 4-0 with a no-decision in five outings.
In his last appearance, on May 18 against Detroit, he gave up six hits in seven scoreless innings of the Diamondbacks' 4-0 blanking of the Tigers.
Johnson is 5-5 in 11 career starts against the Braves, posting a 4.56 ERA in 75 innings.
On Friday, Doug Davis got the victory in his first game back after undergoing cancer surgery, as the Diamondbacks crushed the Braves, 11-1. Chris Young was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and finished with three runs batted in for Arizona, which snapped a three-game skid but is still only 2-4 in their last six contests.
Stephen Drew, Mark Reynolds and Conor Jackson each had a solo blast, while Eric Byrnes added a two-run shot. The five home runs hit by Arizona set a season- high.
Davis (2-1) was the story, though, as he threw seven innings and gave up just one run on five hits, with four strikeouts and two walks.
The 32-year-old native of Sacramento made two starts at the beginning of the season after having been diagnosed with a cancerous thyroid gland shortly before Opening Day.
He had surgery to remove the gland on April 10 and was declared cancer free before making a pair of rehab starts at Triple-A Tucson and returning to the big-league club this week.
Brian McCann went 2-for-2, extended his hitting streak to 11 games and scored the only run for Atlanta, which saw its five-game win string end. Kelly Johnson went 1-for-3, extending his hit streak to 10 games, and recorded the lone RBI.
Jo-Jo Reyes (2-2) absorbed the loss as he was touched for eight runs -- seven earned -- on six hits in five frames, while giving up three walks and fanning four batters. Reyes was also responsible for three of the five Arizona homers.
Arizona won four of its six matchups with the Braves last season and is 11-3 against them since the start of the 2006 campaign, including a wins in seven of its last eight visits to Turner Field.
