(Sports Network) - Arizona left-hander Doug Davis returns to the majors for the first time since undergoing cancer surgery tonight, when the Arizona Diamondbacks visit Turner Field for the opener of a four-game set with the Atlanta Braves.
Davis, a 32-year-old native of Sacramento, California, made two starts at the beginning of the season after having been diagnosed with a cancerous thyroid gland shortly before Opening Day.
He had surgery to remove the gland on April 10 and was declared cancer free before making a pair of rehab starts at Triple-A Tucson and returning to the big-league club this week.
The 6-foot-4, 213-pounder, who established a career-high with 13 wins last season, has allowed 15 hits and six runs in three lifetime starts against the Braves, posting a 2.84 earned run average in 19 innings.
He was 1-1 in the two starts before his surgery, combining to allow 10 hits and four earned runs in 9 2/3 innings against Cincinnati and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He was 1-1 with a no-decision in three previous 2008 outings and has combined to give up 28 hits and nine earned runs in 19 2/3 innings.
Reyes got a no-decision in his lone career matchup with the Diamondbacks last season, allowing seven hits and seven runs in four innings.
On Thursday in Miami, Andrew Miller tossed seven shutout innings to lead Florida to a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks with a 4-0 win.
Miller (4-3) scattered five hits, struck out a career-high nine, and walked one for the Marlins, who swept the three-game matchup of division leaders, maintaining their surprising spot atop the National League East.
Dan Haren (5-3) surrendered four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings, fanning eight with no walks for the D-Backs, who had won four of five entering this series.
Arizona left nine runners on base in the shutout, which capped a series in which it scored three runs in three games.
In Atlanta, Tim Hudson tossed eight strong innings to lead Atlanta to a 4-2 win over the New York Mets, as the Braves completed a four- game sweep.
Hudson (7-3) allowed two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts for the Braves, who outscored the Mets 27-9 in the series and garnered the first four- game sweep of their NL East rivals since July 17-20, 2003.
