(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers will try for a series sweep this evening, when they play the finale of a three-game set versus the Cincinnati Reds at Chavez Ravine.
The Dodgers posted a 6-5 win in Monday's opener, then handed the Reds a 4-1 setback last night. Chad Billingsley pitched seven scoreless innings of four- hit ball to lead Los Angeles, which has won five of its last seven games.
Billingsley struck out seven and walked just two batters, while adding an RBI single at the plate. Juan Pierre and Matt Kemp each drove in a run and scored once in a winning effort.
Dodgers rookie Hiroki Kuroda will toe the rubber tonight, and is just 1-3 with a 3.67 ERA in nine starts this season.
Kuroda is 0-3 in his last eight starts, while the Dodgers are 3-5 over that stretch. He last took the mound on May 16 at Angel Stadium and was saddled with the loss, allowing four runs -- three earned -- and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-2 setback.
The 6-1 right-hander is searching for his first win since his major league debut on April 4 at San Diego.
Edwin Encarnacion knocked in a run on Tuesday for the Reds, who have dropped two in a row after a season-high six-game win streak. Adam Dunn, who tied a Reds franchise record with home runs in five consecutive games, was 1-for-3 with a run scored in defeat.
Cincinnati starter Matt Belisle was charged with seven hits and three runs over six-plus innings to absorb the loss.
Reds rookie pitcher Johnny Cueto is still searching for the first road victory of his career, and will head to the bump on Wednesday.
Cueto is 1-4 in his previous five decisions, but did not factor in the outcome his last time out on May 16 versus Cleveland. In a 4-3 victory at Great American Ballpark, Cueto was reached for three runs and three hits in six innings.
The righty is 0-3 with a 9.16 ERA in four road starts this season, having dropped his last away start on May 11 at New York's Shea Stadium. The Mets pounded him for six runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings of an 8-3 setback.
The Dodgers sport a 17-6 mark over the past 23 matchups with the Reds. Los Angeles is 10-2 against Cincinnati at Chavez Ravine over that time.
