Texas Rangers (22-24) at Minnesota Twins (22-22), 8:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - After starting up their four-game series with an extra- inning thriller last night, the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers will go at it again this evening at the Metrodome.

The Twins sent Monday's opener into extras with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, then came through with a 7-6 victory over the red-hot Rangers on Howie Clark's one-out double in the bottom of the 12th.

Carlos Gomez, who did not start for the third straight game due to a sore right wrist, began Minnesota's 12th-inning rally with a leadoff single against Franklyn German (1-3). The speedy outfielder took second on a groundout and scored when Clark ripped a line drive over Josh Hamilton's head in center field.

Clark's hit gave Bobby Korecky (1-0) his first major league win after the right-hander worked 1 2/3 perfect innings. Alexi Casilla hit his first big league homer for Minnesota, which had lost five of six entering the tilt, with a three-run blast in the fourth frame.

Texas led 6-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, but closer C.J. Wilson issued consecutive one-out walks and then uncorked a wild pitch to advance both runners. Joe Mauer followed with a single to center, plating Craig Monroe with the tying run.

Hamilton slugged a two-run homer and Ian Kinsler added a solo shot for the Rangers, who also received two hits and an RBI out of Milton Bradley.

Bradley extended his hitting streak to seven games with last night's effort and is batting .407 (11-for-27) with four homers and 10 RBI during the tear.

Texas, which opened a 10-game road trip on Monday, has now dropped back-to- back contests after winning 13 times in a 16-game span.

Tonight's matchup pits a pair of inexperienced pitchers with a combined one major league win between them in the Rangers' Doug Mathis and Minnesota southpaw Glen Perkins.

Mathis, a 24-year-old who was selected by Texas in the 13th round of the 2005 draft, was promoted to the big leagues last week and earned the victory in his debut by tossing a scoreless inning of relief in the Rangers' 5-4 decision over Seattle on May 12. He has made two more appearances out of the bullpen since that game and delivered a scoreless frame in each outing.

The right-hander had compiled a 5-0 record and a 3.55 earned run average in seven starts for Triple-A Oklahoma before being called up when the Rangers placed Kevin Millwood on the disabled list.

Perkins, a first-round selection by the Twins in 2004, will make his third major league start tonight and takes another crack at recording his first win with the big club. The Minnesota native had a solid effort in Thursday's 3-2 home loss to Toronto, working six innings and allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out six Blue Jays in a no decision.

The 25-year-old served up three solo homers in six innings during his first start, a 5-2 loss to Boston at the Metrodome on May 10.

Perkins did make 19 relief appearances for the Twins last season and faced the Rangers three times in that role, in which he did not surrender a run or a hit to Texas over a 3 2/3-inning span.

Minnesota has now taken nine of its last 12 encounters with the Rangers and is 6-1 against Texas at the Metrodome over that span. The Rangers did win two of three tests versus the Twins in Arlington last month, however.
