(Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers are playing rather well on their current homestand and will resume a three-game series tonight versus the Los Angeles Dodgers at Miller Park.
Milwaukee has won three in a row and improved to 4-1 on its current seven-game residency versus St. Louis and Los Angeles. The Brewers took three of four games from the Cardinals over the weekend, then posted a 5-3 victory in Tuesday's series opener versus the Dodgers.
Ryan Braun, who entered the night with a pair of homers in back-to-back games, finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs batted in to lead the way. Bill Hall homered for the second straight game for Milwaukee, while Prince Fielder and Mike Cameron both had two hits and an RBI.
Brewers starter Carlos Villanueva earned the win after allowing three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits over six innings. Salomon Torres threw two shutout innings in relief before Eric Gagne, who was demoted from the closer's role on Sunday, survived another rocky ninth for his 10th save of 2008.
Milwaukee will send Manny Parra to the bump on Wednesday, and he is 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA in seven starts this season.
Parra is 0-2 in six starts since winning his 2008 debut on April 5 versus the San Francisco Giants. In his last start on Friday versus St. Louis, Parra did not factor in the outcome of a 4-3 win after allowing three runs and three hits through five innings of work.
The left-hander has never faced the Dodgers in his brief career.
Los Angeles will try to put the brakes on a five-game losing streak on Wednesday. In last night's loss, Russell Martin highlighted the offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Dodgers ace Brad Penny surrendered five runs on nine hits over six frames to take the loss.
The Dodgers are 1-5 since placing shortstop Rafael Furcal on the DL last week with a back strain, and opened a six-game road trip against the Brewers and Angels on a poor note.
Derek Lowe gets the start for LA on Wednesday and is 2-3 with a 4.43 ERA in eight starts this season. Lowe has dropped back-to-back starts and is winless over his past three trips to the hill.
In his most recent outing on Friday versus Houston, Lowe yielded six runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 7-1 loss at Dodger Stadium. Five days prior to that start, Lowe was reached for five runs in five innings during a 7-3 setback at Colorado.
The right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.41 ERA in six career games (4 starts) against the Brewers.
Los Angeles and Milwaukee split six meetings last season, with the Dodgers going 1-2 at Miller Park. LA is 12-7 in the past 19 matchups in this series.
