(Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres will try to string back-to-back wins together this afternoon, when they wrap up a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park.
The Padres ended a five-game losing streak with Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Rockies, as Greg Maddux pitched six brilliant innings to finally notch his 350th career win. Maddux, who became just the ninth pitcher in league history to record at least 350 wins, gave up just one unearned run on three hits in his time on the hill, lowering his ERA to 3.60. Trevor Hoffman earned his sixth save of the year as he did not allow a hit in the ninth.
Adrian Gonzalez provided all the offense, a three-run homer in the fourth, for the Padres, who earned their first series win since taking two of three games from the Los Angeles Dodgers from April 11 - 13 this season.
The Padres hope Chris Young can bounce back from a rough start when he takes the ball this afternoon. Young is 2-3 with a 4.31 earned run average in seven starts this season, and just 1-3 over the previous six trips to the hill.
Young last pitched on Tuesday at Atlanta, and was rocked for five runs and nine hits in five innings of a 5-3 setback.
The tall righty has enjoyed success throughout his career against Colorado, as he owns a 4-1 mark with a 2.50 ERA in nine starts.
Willy Taveras and Omar Quintanilla knocked in a run each for Colorado, which saw its three-game win streak halted. Ubaldo Jimenez got the start, but absorbed the loss after he was touched for three runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Rockies right-hander Greg Reynolds is expected to make his major league debut on Sunday. Reynolds is taking the place of struggling starter Mark Redman in the rotation.
Reynolds started for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday and was replaced on the mound after throwing 23 pitches in two scoreless innings against Round Rock (Texas). The right-handed Stanford product went 1-2 with a 4.86 ERA in seven starts (33 1/3 innings) for the Sky Sox.
Colorado won two of three games against the Padres from April 15-17 at Petco Park. The Rockies have won eight of the 10 most recent matchups in the series.
