Cleveland Indians (16-17) at New York Yankees (17-18), 1:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Paul Byrd tries to pitch the Cleveland Indians to their first three-game sweep of the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in over 19 years when the two teams play the finale of their set this afternoon.

Cleveland moved to the brink of its first sweep in the Bronx since April 7-9, 1989 on Wednesday, thanks to another brilliant performance from Cliff Lee. The left-hander tossed seven scoreless innings in the Tribe's 3-0 win.

Lee (6-0), who has yet to give up a run on the road this season, allowed just six hits and fanned seven batters for the Indians, lowering his earned run average on the season to 0.81. Rafael Betancourt notched his fourth save of the year after he pitched a perfect ninth inning.

Jhonny Peralta and Ben Francisco both recorded a pair of base hits in the win, while David Dellucci added an RBI single. Although Cleveland tallied seven hits, none went for extra bases.

By winning four of six from the Yankees already this season, the Tribe have clinched their first outright season series victory over New York since they went 7-6 against the Bronx Bombers in 1992.

Chien-Ming Wang (6-1) took the loss despite a solid effort. The Yankees' ace yielded three runs on five hits in seven frames on the hill.

Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with a double and was the only Yankee with a multi- hit game. Shelley Duncan also clubbed a double in defeat, while AL batting leader Hideki Matsui extended his hit streak to a career-best 16 games with a bloop single in the second inning.

Byrd will get the call for the Tribe today and will try to follow up his best start of the year. Against the Seattle Mariners last Thursday, Byrd scattered four hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings but did not factor in the decision of his team's 3-2 win.

The 37-year-old right-hander, who is 1-2 with a 3.74 ERA on the season, defeated the Yankees two starts ago and is 2-4 lifetime against them with a 4.64 ERA in nine starts.

New York will counter with veteran right-hander Mike Mussina, who has won his last three starts. Mussina's most recent win came on Saturday against Seattle, when he allowed a run and seven hits in six innings to run his record to 4-3 and lower his ERA to 4.23.

Mussina beat the Indians on April 28 and is 12-9 against them in his career with a 4.75 ERA in 26 starts.

The Yankees, who have lost five straight games to AL Central teams, split a four-game series with the Indians earlier in the year but have won 10 of the last 14 overall meetings in this series. New York has also been a stingy host, having won eight of its last 12 at home in the matchup.
