(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Braves will try to extend their home winning streak to six games when they resume a three-game series versus the San Diego Padres tonight from Turner Field.
Atlanta has won 11 of its last 13 home games and is an NL-best 12-4 as the host this season. It just swept the Cincinnati Reds in three games to open a six-game homestand and defeated San Diego, 5-3, in Tuesday's series opener. Chipper Jones hit a two-run homer and Mark Kotsay went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the Braves.
Starter Jair Jurrjens got the win as he gave up just one run on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts in six innings. Four Atlanta relievers took the hill before Jeff Bennett got the final out of the game for his first save of the season.
Braves veteran pitcher Tim Hudson will make his eighth start of the season tonight, and is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA. Hudson has alternated wins and losses over his last five starts, going the distance in a victory on May 2 versus Cincinnati. He tossed a three-hit shutout in the 2-0 win with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Hudson rebounded from his previous start at New York on April 26, when he was reached for four runs in just three frames.
The righty will try to stay perfect in his career against San Diego, as he sports a 2-0 mark with a 4.88 earned run average through five appearances.
San Diego has lost two straight, four of five and 15 of its last 19 games, including last night's two-run setback. Brain Giles went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and Adrian Gonzalez drove in two for the Padres, who are 2-5 on a nine-game road trip. Padres starter Chris Young was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
Randy Wolf has been sluggish his last two starts and will try to regain his early-season form when he takes the ball for San Diego on Wednesday.
Wolf, who is 2-1 with a 3.57 earned run average in six starts, is 0-1 over his previous two outings after opening the 2008 campaign unbeaten (2-0) through four starts. He last pitched on May 1 at Philadelphia and gave up two runs in six innings of a 3-2 setback for a no-decision. Before taking on his former Phillies squad, Wolf was reached for five runs in four innings for a loss versus Arizona.
The left-handed Pepperdine product is 4-9 with a 5.02 earned run average in 23 career appearances (21 starts) against Atlanta. He accumulated most of those performances while with the Phillies for eight years.
Atlanta went 5-2 against San Diego last season, with a 3-1 mark at Turner Field. The Braves are 14-4 over the previous 18 matchups in this series.
