Boston Red Sox (22-13) at Detroit Tigers (14-20), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Right-hander Armando Galarraga will attempt to pitch the Detroit Tigers out of their latest slump tonight when he faces the visiting Boston Red Sox in game three of a four-game series at Comerica Park.

Galarraga, a 26-year-old who reached the majors with the Texas Rangers in 2007, has allowed just 13 hits and five earned runs in 24 innings over four starts with the Tigers - who've dropped five straight games.

Detroit is 3-1 in games he's started.

The undrafted free-agent signee started the season with two wins and a no- decision in three starts, but was beaten his last time out, on May 2 at Minnesota, when he allowed six hits and two earned runs in six innings of an 11-1 loss.

Galarraga made three appearances - one start - with the Rangers last season, allowing eight hits and six runs in 8 2/3 innings.

He has never faced Boston.

Meanwhile, fellow youngster Clay Buchholz looks for a third win in four starts for the Red Sox.

The 23-year-old right-hander was 0-1 with two no-decisions in his initial three outings this season, but has since sandwiched wins over Texas and Tampa Bay around a tough-luck loss to the Rays on April 26.

In the three-game rebound, Buchholz has allowed just 13 hits and three runs in 19 1/3 innings.

He has never faced the Tigers.

On Tuesday, Tim Wakefield gave up two hits in eight shutout innings and the Red Sox got back-to-back home runs from David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez to beat Detroit, 5-0.

Wakefield (3-1) retired 17 straight hitters after allowing a two-out Carlos Guillen single in the first, leading the Sox to victory. Wakefield allowed three base runners, one of which reached on an error by second baseman Dustin Pedroia.

He struck out six and walked none as Boston won its fifth straight.

The Red Sox used a three-run second inning and home runs from Ortiz and Ramirez in the seventh, making sure Wakefield's superb effort stood up.

Kevin Cash went 3-for-4 knocking in a run, getting the start for Jason Varitek at catcher. Kevin Youkilis slugged two doubles going 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Ramirez added two singles to go along with his seventh homer of the year.

Nate Robertson (1-4) allowed four runs on 10 hits, walked twos and fanned four. He has allowed four or more runs in each of his seven starts this season.

The Tigers managed only three hits in the game with a double from Ivan Rodriguez and singles from Curtis Granderson and Guillen, never moving a runner past second base.

Boston won two of three over Detroit at Fenway Park on April 8-10, but was swept in a three-game set at Comerica Stadium from July 6-8 of last season.
