(Sports Network) - Shawn Chacon is still searching for his first win with the Houston Astros, who will begin a three-game series tonight versus the Washington Nationals at Minute Maid Park.
Chacon hasn't factored into the outcome in any of his six starts this season and owns a 3.32 earned run average. In his previous outing on April 30 at Arizona, Chacon lasted a season-low five innings and gave up a season-high five runs on seven hits in an 8-7 loss.
The right-hander has enjoyed success throughout his career against the Nationals with a 3-2 record and a 4.30 ERA in 11 appearances (seven starts).
Houston just swept the Milwaukee Brewers in three contests to open a six-game road trip. On Sunday, Hunter Pence clubbed a solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to lead the Astros to an 8-6 win. Lance Berkman went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in to pace Houston, which has won four of five.
Starter Chris Sampson was roughed up in 3 1/3 innings for the Astros, as he surrendered five runs on nine hits and a pair of walks with three strikeouts. Tim Byrdak was the sixth relief pitcher used and hurled a scoreless 12th inning for the win.
Washington will try to stay hot when it opens a three-game series with the Astros on Tuesday. The Nationals have won two straight, six of seven and eight of their last 10 games, including Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the finale of a four-game set.
Nats starter Tim Redding allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings as Washington pounded out 13 hits to complete an 11-game homestand with an 8-3 record. Cristian Guzman and Austin Kearns each had two hits and scored a run, while Aaron Boone belted a solo home run in a winning cause.
Nationals pitcher Shawn Hill will make his fourth start of the season tonight, and is 0-0 with a 3.50 ERA this season. Hill is coming off an impressive performance versus Atlanta on April 30, when he surrendered just one run and four hits in a season-high eight innings.
Hill, a right-hander, began the season on the disabled list with tightness in his right forearm. He will take on Houston for the first time in his career.
Washington went 5-2 against Houston last season, with a 3-1 record at Minute Maid Park.
