Philadelphia Phillies (19-14) at Arizona Diamondbacks (21-11), 9:40 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to avoid losing three straight games for the first time this year when they play the second test of a four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies tonight at Chase Field.

Arizona, which holds the best record in the majors at 21-11, has lost two straight and three of four after Monday's 11-4 setback to the Phillies. The Diamondbacks lost back-to-back tests for the first time since April 13-14. Those two losses followed an eight-game winning streak.

However, the Diamondbacks have now fallen to 3-4 on a 10-game homestand after Monday's rout.

Max Scherzer (0-1), making his first major-league start, surrendered five runs -- two earned -- on seven hits and struck out five in four innings. Arizona's first-round pick in 2006, Scherzer made his big league debut on Tuesday and pitched a perfect 4 1/3 innings, striking out seven batters and retiring all 13 hitters he faced.

Chris Snyder homered and scored twice, while Stephen Drew added an RBI triple for the Diamondbacks. Justin Upton and Chris Young both had a pair of hits in defeat.

Jamie Moyer was dazzling on the mound for the Phillies, who pounded out a season-high tying 17 hits en route to season best 11 runs. Moyer (2-2) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five over a season-best seven innings to earn the win. The veteran helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Geoff Jenkins and Carlos Ruiz each finished with three hits and an RBI, while Eric Bruntlett tripled and knocked in three runs for Philadelphia, which was coming off a 4-2 homestand. Chase Utley doubled twice and scored two runs to up his season average to .362, while Ryan Howard had two RBI in the victory.

Despite pitching well at the rear of Philadelphia's rotation, Adam Eaton has yet to post a decision through six 2008 starts. The Phillies, though, have notched a victory in each of Eaton's last four outings. The right-hander, who toes the rubber tonight for Philly, allowed a season-low two runs on five hits over six innings of his team's eventual 3-2 victory over San Diego on Thursday.

Eaton, who spent six seasons with the Padres, is 3-4 with a 3.80 earned run average in 13 career starts versus Arizona. He lost his lone start against the Diamondbacks last year, allowing three runs on seven hits, including home runs by Eric Byrnes and Tony Clark.

The Diamondbacks send Randy Johnson to the hill tonight. After an excellent outing on April 25 versus the Padres that saw the left-hander post career win No. 285, Johnson was rocked for six runs on nine hits over just four innings versus Houston on Wednesday. He left the game down a run, but the Diamondbacks ended up winning 8-7 to get Johnson off the hook.

The 6-foot-10 former Cy Young Award winner is 9-3 with a shutout and a 2.44 ERA in 18 career games versus the Phillies, and has posted 143 strikeouts in 121 2/3 innings against them.

He faced the Phillies twice last year, going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. Utley and Pat Burrell, who have recorded 22 homers and 56 RBI between the two of them this year, went a combined 1-for-8 with five strikeouts against Johnson last year.

Burrell is hitting .211 (4-for-19) with a homer, three RBI and 12 strikeouts in his career against Johnson, while Utley does not have a hit in six at-bats against him.

Arizona dominated Philadelphia last year, winning five of the six meetings.
