Boston Red Sox (20-13) at Detroit Tigers (14-18), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Second-year major leaguer Daisuke Matsuzaka looks for a fifth victory without a loss tonight when the Boston Red Sox open a four-game series with the host Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Matsuzaka was 15-12 with a 4.40 earned run average for the World Series champion Red Sox in his initial big-league season and has gotten even better, allowing just 20 hits and 10 runs in his first 35 2/3 innings of 2008.

He got a tough-luck no-decision in his last outing, allowing just two hits over seven scoreless innings in what wound up as a 2-1 Boston victory against Toronto on April 30.

He defeated the Tigers, 5-0, on April 8, allowing four hits in 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts. In three career starts against Detroit, he is 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA in 20 2/3 innings.

Jeremy Bonderman goes for the Tigers, looking to get past .500 in his career against the Red Sox. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder is 4-4 in 10 lifetime starts against Boston with a 4.35 ERA in 60 innings.

He defeated the Red Sox on April 9 in Boston, allowing five hits and an earned run in five innings of a 7-2 triumph.

In his last start, on April 30 in New York, Bonderman defeated the Yankees, 6-2, with 7 2/3 innings of five-hit, two-run ball.

On Sunday in Boston, Kevin Youkilis went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI as Boston tripped up Tampa Bay, 7-3, in the finale of a three-game weekend set from Fenway Park.

Jason Varitek and Coco Crisp added two hits each for the Red Sox, who swept the series and have won five of six. Dustin Pedroia and Manny Ramirez also drove in runs.

Sox starter Jon Lester (2-2) earned the win, allowing one run and four hits over six full innings. Jonathan Papelbon recorded the final four outs of the game to notch his ninth save.

In Minnesota, Joe Mauer went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Twins in a 7-6 victory over the Tigers to complete the three-game sweep.

Curtis Granderson hit a solo home run and Edgar Renteria finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored for the Tigers, who were swept by the Twins on the heels of sweeping the Yankees in New York.

Placido Polanco also had two hits in defeat.

Kenny Rogers started and gave up five runs -- three earned -- on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Zach Miner (1-2) was charged with the loss after he gave up two runs on two hits and failing to record an out.

Boston won two of three over Detroit at Fenway Park on April 8-10, but was swept in a three-game set at Comerica Stadium from July 6-8 of last season.
