Detroit Tigers (14-17) at Minnesota Twins (15-14), 2:10 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The first-place Minnesota Twins will attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers at the Metrodome today as the AL Central foes slug it out.

Yesterday, Craig Monroe connected on a two-run homer and the Minnesota bullpen tossed six strong innings, helping the Twins to a 4-1 victory.

Brian Bass (1-0) filled in nicely for injured Twins starter Scott Baker who left after three innings with a groin strain. Baker had to leave his second consecutive start after aggravating the injury, suffered during his last start April 26 at Texas. Bass scattered three hits over four innings, equaling his longest outing of the season and by far his most effective. Joe Nathan notched his 10th save.

Mike Lamb had two hits and scored the first two runs of the game for the Twins, who are riding a four-game win streak and will try to complete their first three-game sweep of the Tigers since turning the trick in the final three games of the 2005 campaign.

Twins coach Ron Gardenhire missed his second consecutive game after the death of his older brother Mike who passed away unexpectedly, third base coach Scott Ullger is filling in for the series.

Justin Verlander (1-5) went seven innings giving up four earned runs on seven hits for Detroit. He struck out five and walked two in the losing effort. Detroit has dropped two straight after sweeping the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

Curtis Granderson had two hits, including a home run in the eighth for Detroit's lone run.

The Tigers placed pitcher Denny Bautista on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with shoulder soreness and purchased the contract of pitcher Freddy Dolsi from Double-A Erie

Veteran hurler Kenny Rogers is slated to get the ball for Detroit today. The lefty has struggled mightily thus far, as he is 2-3 with a 6.75 ERA. On a positive note, he did earn his first victory at Yankee stadium in over a decade on Tuesday by limiting New York to two runs over six innings of work.

Rogers is 15-9 all-time against Minnesota with a 2.95 ERA.

Minnesota will counter with Boof Bonser who is 2-4 this season with a 3.75 ERA. Bonser is coming off a strong performance against the White Sox on Tuesday that saw him pitch seven innings of one-run ball en route to victory. Still, he is just 1-3 at home.

Bonser is 2-0 in his career against the Tigers with a 3.75 ERA.

Detroit swept a two-game series at home versus Minnesota in mid-April and had won four straight and 11 of 12 versus the Twins prior to the start of this series.
