Tampa Bay Rays (3-2) at New York Yankees (3-3), 7:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Mike Mussina tries to duplicate Chien-Ming's masterful performance this evening when the New York Yankees close their four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium.

Wang (2-0) was brilliant on Sunday against the Rays, holding them to just four hits over seven-plus scoreless innings in a 2-0 New York win. Hideki Matsui provided the offense with a two-run home run for the Yankees, who had lost the first two games of this set.

Joba Chamberlain relieved Wang in the seventh with no outs and runners on the corners, but recorded a strikeout and got a double play to get out of the inning, before working a perfect eighth. Mariano Rivera then recorded the final three outs for his third save of the season.

Chamberlain and Rivera this season have combined to pitch seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk while striking out eight.

James Shields (1-1) pitched well, but took the loss for Tampa Bay. He was charged with two runs and eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts. The right-hander fell to 0-5 in six lifetime starts against the Yankees.

Even with the loss Tampa has matched its best five-game start in team history at 3-2.

Mussina, meanwhile, will have to be better than he was in his season debut against Toronto if the Yankees are going to earn a split in this series. Mussina was in and out of trouble all night on Wednesday against the Jays and suffered the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) in 5 1/3 frames.

The 39-year-old right-hander, though, has had success against the Rays over the course of his career, posting a 16-7 mark against them with a 3.50 ERA in 29 starts. Mussina has been even better against them at Yankee Stadium, where he has posted a 7-1 mark to go along with a sparkling 1.96 ERA.

Tampa will counter with right-hander Jason Hammel, who will be making his first appearance of the 2008 season. Hammel was 3-5 last year with a 6.14 ERA, but one of those wins came at Yankee Stadium. He is 1-1 lifetime against the Yanks with a 6.41 ERA in six games, four of which have been starts.

New York won 10 of their 18 matchups with the Rays a year ago and were 5-4 against them in the Bronx. The Yanks are 24-15 since the start of the 2006 season against Tampa, losing just eight of their 21 games at home to the Rays over that time.
