Seattle Mariners (2-3) at Baltimore Orioles (3-1), 1:35 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Erik Bedard's return to Baltimore will have to wait, as the left-hander is battling inflammation in his left hip and will miss his scheduled start on Sunday against the Seattle Mariners.

The team doesn't believe it is a serious condition, and are confident that he can start on Tuesday in Tampa.

Seattle acquired Bedard from the Orioles this offseason in a much-ballyhooed move. Bedard went 13-5 with a 3.16 earned run average and 221 strikeouts in 28 starts with Baltimore last season, until his campaign was cut short by a strained oblique.

So with Bedard sidelined, young Felix Hernandez takes the hill today in the third test of this four-game set from Camden Yards. Carlos Silva is expected to pitch the finale on Monday.

Hernandez will try to duplicate what he did against the Texas Rangers in his season opener on Tuesday, when he surrendered just an unearned run on five hits over seven innings. However, he did not factor in the decision of his team's 5-4 loss.

Hernandez, who will turn 22 on Tuesday, has faced the O's six times and is 3-2 with a 5.60 ERA against them.

Baltimore will pin its hopes on right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, who is still looking for his first win of the year. Guthrie was handed the loss on Opening Day against the Tampa Bay Rays, as he was tagged for six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Guthrie is 1-1 lifetime against the Mariners with a 6.30 ERA in two starts.

In the second game of this set on Saturday, Luke Scott went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two driven in to lift Baltimore to a 6-4 triumph. Melvin Mora had three hits and a run scored while Matt Albers (1-0) got the win after pitching 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Orioles, who have won their past three games.

Jose Vidro and Jose Lopez each hit two-run homers for the Mariners, who have dropped three of their last four games. Miguel Batista (0-1) got the loss as he gave up five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in five innings.

The Mariners swept a three-game series from the Orioles in Baltimore last August and are 7-3 in their last 10 matchups at Camden Yards. Seattle won seven of the nine overall meetings between these teams a year ago.
