(Sports Network) - Lefty Barry Zito makes his second start of the young season today when the slumping San Francisco Giants visit Miller Park to wrap up a three-game series with the host Milwaukee Brewers.
Zito, who'll turn 30 in May, got the call on Opening Day for the Giants, who lost a 5-0 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers and have gone on to lose four of their first five games in 2008.
The ex-Oakland Athletics ace allowed eight hits and four runs over five innings in the start, in which he was hoping to kick-start a rebound from a disappointing 2007, when he went just 11-13 in 34 appearances, including 33 starts, with the Giants.
Zito is 1-2 in three lifetime starts against the Brewers, allowing 15 hits and 14 runs in 17 1/3 innings.
Former first-round draft pick Ben Sheets goes for the second time in 2007 for Milwaukee, following up on an Opening Day effort in which he allowed two hits in six scoreless innings of a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs.
Sheets, the 10th overall selection in 1999, has been oft-injured in the past two seasons, making a combined 41 starts while going 18-12 in 247 1/3 innings.
He's 3-2 in six career starts against the Giants with a 2.68 earned run average in 47 innings.
On Saturday, Mike Rivera went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in and Manny Parra carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning on the way to his first major- league victory, leading the Brewers to a 5-4 win over the Giants.
Parra (1-0) allowed a total of two runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings, leaving just one out after his no-hit bid was spoiled by Giants left fielder Eugenio Velez. The 25-year-old California-bred right-hander struck out seven and walked just two in not only earning his first big-league win, but helping hot-starting Milwaukee to its fourth win in five games to open the season.
Ryan Braun went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for the Brewers, while Gabe Kapler provided a pinch-hit blast.
Kevin Correia (0-1) was on the losing end of Parra's strong outing, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four and walking three over six innings. Ray Durham went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI for the Giants, losers of two straight and four of five.
San Francisco won last year's season series, 5-4.
