Houston Astros (0-1) at San Diego Padres (1-0), 10:05 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Chris Young tries to follow up Jake Peavy's brilliant season-opening performance when the San Diego Padres resume their four-game series with the Houston Astros at Petco Park.

It was a tale of two seasons for Young last season. The 28-year-old right- hander was 9-3 with a sparkling 1.82 earned run average through his first 20 starts. However, a strained oblique hampered him after that and he lost his last five decisions and ended the year with a 3.12 ERA.

Young, who was 4-2 with a major league-low 1.69 ERA at home last season, has only faced the Astros twice, but is a perfect 2-0 against them with a 3.75 ERA. He hasn't faced them since the 2005 campaign, though.

Peavy, who won pitching's Triple Crown last season en route to his first NL Cy Young Award, threw seven shutout innings on Monday and drove in a pair of runs to lead San Diego to a 4-0 win.

Peavy (1-0) allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four as the Padres ace continued his domination on Opening Day. The powerful right-hander is 3-0 with a fantastic 0.45 ERA over the last three years in the season opener.

Second baseman Tadahito Iguchi, acquired in the offseason via free agency, had three hits and scored once. Adrian Gonzalez posted two of San Diego's 14 hits and had an RBI.

Roy Oswalt (0-1) was dealt the loss after yielding 11 hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings. Oswalt, who also walked one and logged six strikeouts, fell to 7-2 lifetime against the Padres.

Miguel Tejada, obtained through a winter trade with Baltimore, had two of Houston's four hits.

Heading to the hill tonight for the Astros will be right-hander Brandon Backe, who was 3-1 last season with a 3.77 ERA in five starts. Backe missed most of last season recovering from his second Tommy John procedure.

Backe is 2-1 lifetime against the Padres with a 2.45 ERA in three starts.

Houston won the 2007 season series with San Diego by a 4-3 count after the teams split six meetings the year before.
