Seattle Mariners (73-60) at Toronto Blue Jays (68-66), 1:07 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Dominican right-hander Miguel Batista faces one of his former teams today when the Seattle Mariners visit the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre for the second test of a three-game series between fellow 1977 expansion teams.

Batista, a 36-year-old native of Santo Domingo, pitched for the Blue Jays for two seasons -- one stint as a partial starter and another as the team's closer. He was a combined 15-21 in 109 games with Toronto, posting 36 saves over 273 1/3 innings.

Batista defeated the Blue Jays, 4-2, with 5 2/3 innings of five-hit ball on July 20 this season to improve his lifetime mark against them to 3-2 in five appearances with a 1.59 earned run average.

Toronto right-hander Dustin McGowan seeks his first win since August 5.

He scattered eight hits and allowed a run over eight innings in downing Texas, 4-1, in that start. He is 0-3 with a no-decision since, however.

He was touched for six hits and three runs in seven innings of a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on August 26, falling to the .500 mark on the season after an 8-5 start.

McGowan is 0-1 in three career outings against the Mariners with a 5.19 ERA in 8 2/3 innings.

On Friday, Troy Glaus hit a two-run homer and Lyle Overbay also added a solo shot in the third inning, and the Blue Jays held off the Mariners, 7-5.

Alex Rios added a solo homer and scored three runs for Toronto, which has won four of its last six games.

Shaun Marcum (12-5) allowed four runs on seven hits, walked a pair and fanned three over five innings, good enough to earn his seventh win in his last eight decisions.

Adrian Beltre and Jose Vidro both homered for Seattle, which has lost seven straight games and relinquished its lead atop the American League wild card standings. The Mariners remain a game behind the Yankees, who lost to Tampa Bay on Friday night.

Jarrod Washburn (9-12) took the loss, allowing six runs and seven hits, with five walks and no punchouts over 3 1/3 innings.

The Mariners swept a three-game set from Toronto in Seattle from June 29-July 1 this season, but the Jays won two of three meetings at Rogers Centre last month.
