(Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers will resume a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at Miller Park with hopes of gaining ground in the National League Central division.
Milwaukee has won two of its last three games following a five-game skid and sits 1 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the top spot in the Central. The Brewers posted a 3-2 win over the Pirates in Friday's series opener, as Yovani Gallardo tossed seven innings of two-run ball and hit a solo homer.
Gallardo struck out seven and walked just one while allowing five hits. Gabe Gross was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Brewers, while Corey Hart went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Dave Bush will handle the pitching duties for Milwaukee on Saturday and is 10-9 with a 4.96 ERA in 27 games (25 starts) this season.
Bush has won two of his last three decisions but did not factor in the outcome on Sunday at San Francisco. He was reached for four runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-4 loss at AT&T Park.
The right-hander hasn't fared too well in his career against Pittsburgh, toting an 0-3 mark with a 5.85 ERA in four career games (three starts). Bush was beaten by the Pirates on May 3 at Miller Park, where he surrendered four runs and six hits in seven innings of a 4-2 setback.
Toeing the rubber for the Buccos tonight will be Shane Youman, who is 3-4 with a 5.59 ERA in 10 games (seven starts) this season.
Youman ended a string of four straight losing decisions his last time out on August 24 at Houston. Youman hurled two scoreless innings of two-hit ball in relief during the 8-3 victory.
In his last start on August 13 against San Francisco, the left-hander was saddled with the loss after giving up five runs in six innings of a 10-3 setback at PNC Park.
Youman defeated Milwaukee on July 3 of this season in the Steel City. He held the Brewers to a pair of runs and eight hits over six innings of a 6-2 win.
Pittsburgh starter Tony Armas took the loss last night, allowing three earned runs on four hits in six innings of work. The right-hander struck out five and walked just two, but was victimized by the homer he allowed to Gallardo in the fourth inning.
Adam LaRoche was 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored for Pittsburgh, which has lost three straight and four of its last six contests.
Milwaukee leads the 2007 season series with Pittsburgh by a 7-4 count, with a 6-1 record at Miller Park.
